Biography for Doris Helfer

 

Doris Helfer is Science Librarian and Chair, Technical Services at California State University Northridge. Responsible for building the library collection for Mathematics, Geology, Family Environmental Studies and Computer Science her department is responsible for Acquisitions, Collection Development and Cataloging. She is a columnist for  "Searcher Magazine: the Magazine of the Database Professional" on Library trends.

Prior to going to CSU Northridge in 1996, Doris worked at AT&T Global Information Solutions, RAND Corp., and the University of Southern California. She currently holds a B.A. in Political Science from CSU Northridge and an M.S.L. from Western Michigan University. 

She started in SLA as a student member and has held various positions in the Southern California Chapter, from Calendar Coordinator to President.   She has been Chair of the Information Technology Division and Communications Division, as well as Chair of the Networking, Public Relations and Research Committees of SLA, during 1999 to 2001 she served on the SLA Board of Directors from, as Division Cabinet Chair and Chair-Elect. Doris is also an  SLA Fellow with a strong commitment to the association and to seeing SLA become bigger, better and stronger in the future.
