Scott is the manger of Web content at Kennametal Inc. He is responsible for the collection and dissemination of corporate information via the Web. This includes catalogs, promotions, financial and press information. Further, the site is integrated with the ERP system allowing for product sales via the Internet. He is responsible for ensuring a consistent look and feel for the Kennametal brand as it is presented globally via the Kennametal Web site. While not considered a typical librarian’s job, this position makes use of many library skills and is an example of the many options for librarians outside of the typical library environment.
Previous to this position, he rolled out and implemented an R&D project management system that also used his skills in collecting and organizing information. He has also worked as a reference librarian, responsible for the technical, patent and trademark literature of hard materials, tooling systems and machine tool technologies, as an indexer of nuclear design documents and as a cataloger of general materials.
Scott earned his MLS from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993 and has worked at Brodart, Westinghouse and has now been at Kennametal for five years. He has been a member of SLA since 1995 and has held various positions at both chapter and division levels. These positions have included: 75th Anniversary Committee, Employment Chair, Strategic Planning Committee, Program Planner and Chair of the Materials Research and Manufacturing Division. Scott was a presenter at the 1998 winter meeting was also a member of the Task Force on Conference Planning Structure, (2000-2001). He is currently a member of the Materials Research and Manufacturing Division, the Information Technology Division, the Information Futurists Caucus, the Science-Technology Division, and the Solo Librarians Division. Prior to becoming a librarian, Scott earned his BA in English at Pennsylvania State University and prior to that served in the U.S. Army for four years as a Korean linguist and soldier.
When not at work, Scott serves on his local elementary PTA board as Corresponding Secretary and is responsible for editing the monthly school newsletter. He also likes to spend time in his flower gardens, specializes in Korean cooking and crams in historical novels whenever he can find a spare minute.
