DOCUMENT 1:

 

MAY 19, 1992: "The Internationalization of the Special Libraries Association". SLA Board of Directors, May 19, 1992 [Doc. B92-47]

 

·         International activities desired to increase positive professional effects of globalization on members

 

·         Desire to network with professional associations in other countries

 

·         Involve our volunteer leaders in global activities

 

·         Explore membership categories for international members (corporate for a national group or affiliate for a group with a national point of contact responsible for mailing distribution)

 

·         Overseas membership cost in other associations is from 30% to 50% of US rate - Investigate mechanisms of international payments to minimize the exchange rate discrepencies

 

·         IRC was created to give a voice to international members with co-chair positions reserved to overseas members, to oversee intl. activities and provide a forum for international needs to be heard and addressed

 

·         Need for fund-raising efforts to support international expansion

 

·         Offer member services relevant to international members

 

·         Translations by international groups themselves is desirable
