RE: Reauthorization of Association Caucuses
DATE: January 3, 2003
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Directors approves the reauthorization of the following caucuses effective January 2003, through Winter Meeting 2006.
Gay & Lesbian Issues
Professional Librarians in Non-Traditional Careers
Retired Members
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
·
In keeping with SLA=s
guidelines, members of the caucuses listed above are requesting that they be
reauthorized for a period of three years.
Requests from each of the individual caucuses follow this document.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT: Based on current membership figures, these caucuses generate a combined income of $3,180. The combined annual budget allotment for these caucuses is $1,128. The Professional Librarians in Non-Traditional Careers Caucus is not eligible for an allotment due to recent inactivity and noncompliance with required reporting. There are significant indirect costs to support the caucus members: hosting and support of discussion lists, hosting and support of web sites, providing the platform for annual conference programming and marketing, leadership training, officer insurance, membership marketing, dues invoicing and collection, etc.

Hello Linda,
I am sorry for the delay, but things have been very hectic here. My answers are below:
1. Yes, I recommend that the Caucus be reauthorized for another three years.
2. In 2002: (1) the Caucus held its annual business meeting at the Los Angeles conference, (2) Provide several social opportunities to allow its members to meet and get to know each other, as well as to share experiences, in conjunction with the Los Angeles conference, (3) maintained an e-mail list for its members, (4) maintained a Web site to keep Caucus members and friends informed of Caucus and Association activities and events.
3. Robert Hulshof and I will continue as co-conveners until at least the 2003 conference in New York.

Convenor: Erma Dell'Aquila
This caucus is being re-energized after a period of inactivity. Twenty-seven members have joined the caucus in the last five months and Erma Dell’Aquila has stepped forward to serve as the convenor. The caucus is launching its first-ever discussion list and Hope Tillman is the list owner. The immediate activities of the caucus will not require funds; only the support of the association in hosting a discussion list and possibly a web site.
