In September, Jessica Baumgart of Harvard’s Office of News and Public Affairs, spoke to a class at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, job shadowed colleagues at The Wisconsin State Journal and Capital Times, talked to the SLA Student Chapter and  students interested in special librarianship, and delivered a presentation about weblogs for the SLA Wisconsin Chapter.

Our Bulletin editor, Deanna Briggs, has left MIT Lincoln Laboratory and begun a new position at the Copyright Clearance Center in Danvers, as a Data Management Specialist.

Pamela Burch is the new Associate Librarian for the American Congregational Library located at 14 Beacon Street in Boston. This nonprofit library was founded in 1853 and serves the theologians and clergy of the Congregational/United Church of Christ denomination.

Tina Clayton, formerly of the Cambridge Public Library, joined BBN Technologies as a Senior Research Librarian in October. Tina received her MLS from the University of North Texas.

Cheryl Cove has been employed as a Technical Research Librarian at Raytheon’s Marlborough facility since May 2004 after closing the corporate library at EMC in June 2002.

Betty Edwards has been appointed "Director at Large" for ABLL (Association of Boston Law Libraries). She is the Manager of Library Services for Seyfarth Shaw LLP's
Boston Office.

Judy Jaffe has joined the Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions in Cambridge, MA.  In the newly-created position of Knowledge Librarian, she will be responsible for the development of a KM structure to build the company’s intellectual capital.

Baker Library’s new Executive Director is Mary Lee Kennedy.  Mary Lee started working at Baker in September.  In her most-recent-life-before-HBS, she worked at Microsoft in Washington. 

Mary Kettley is employed as a medical librarian at Healthgate Data Corp., and works part-time as a business reference librarian at Baker Library, Harvard Business School.  Mary used to work at Accenture as a corporate research librarian.

Simmons College GSLIS Dean and Professor Emeritus, James M. Matarazzo, Simmons GSLIS ’65, is coauthor of “Workforce Planning for Library and Information Science,” which appeared in Library and Information Science Researcher, v. 26, 2004, p.115-120.   He is also coauthor of “You Can Move Fast,” in the feedback column of Library Journal, v. 129, June 15, 2004, p.12. In addition, Jim was quoted in an article which appears on the Consumers Energy (Jackson, MI) intranet about his class’s visit to the company library and in an article in the “Librarian Shortage” in the Asbury Park Press (NJ) on July 12, 2004. As Dean Emeritus, Jim has been notified that he will be included in the 59th edition of Who’s Who in America, which will be published in 2005.  He is also a member of the Annual Conference Planning Committee for the national Federation of Abstracting and Information Services for the 47th Annual Conference to be held in Philadelphia on February 27 - March 1, 2005.

Congratulations are in order for Suzanne Milauskas who finished her graduate degree at Simmons in mid-October.  She accomplished a 4.0 grade point average and concentrated on corporate librarianship/business research.  Suzanne plans to seek a part-time position in the Boston area following the holidays.

Lynda W. Moulton, of LWM Technology Services, was a leader of a discussion seminar for the Society of Professional Consultants with a topic of  “Impressing your Clients:  Information Just in Time & Right on the Mark.”  It was a discussion on low technology, low maintenance solutions to managing your documents and the information you need to keep track of as a consultant. Solo practicing consultants were the principal audience.

Jillian Amaral works for Novartis (NIBRI (Cambridge) in the Knowledge Center. She is a member of the Biomedical & Life Science and the Pharmaceutical divisions, as well as the Rhode Island Chapter.

Lisa M. Castoldi is a member of the Social Science Division.

Tamara C. Durbin is a member of the Legal Division. 

Sara R. Goldstein is a member of the Legal Division.

Alison Harris is a member of the Environment & Resource Management Division.

Sarah E. Mason is a member of the New Division.

Jessica Z. McClain works at the Church Media Center in Pembroke, NH and is in the Education and Solo Librarians divisions.

Michele Mizejewski is a member of the Museums, Arts, & Humanities Division.

Leah A. Nickel is in the Biomedical & Life Sciences Division.

Dawn Schontag is in the Competitive Intelligence Division.

Last but not least, Simmons Graduates and Friends, mark your calendars:  April 1, 2005 is the day of the Simmons GSLIS Alumnae/I and Professional Day.  The theme this year is “Nobody’s Fool:  Library Business, Boom or Bust”.
