News & Notes
by Kami Bedard, kbedard@PierceAtwood.com

In July Jill Coghlan started working as Data Librarian with the Connecticut State Data Center, located on the University of Connecticut campus at Storrs. After being RIF'd as a software Project Manager at Sun Microsystems in 2002, she has had temporary and office positions until this new opportunity. She can be reached at jill.coghlan@uconn.edu and phone 860-486-9271.

Alicia Fasi is the new librarian at Pioneer Investments.

Katherine Elizabeth Hawkes and Kevin Joel Hawkes were born on April 12, 2006 to Barbara and Bob Hawkes. Katherine weighed 4 lbs 9 oz. and Kevin weighed 4 lbs 5oz. Both are doing well.

Ruth Kampen will be starting on October 2 as a Reference Librarian with the Intelligence Center at Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America in Deerfield, Illinois.

Ethel M. Salonen has been promoted to Department Head, Information Services of The MITRE Corporation, located in Bedford, MA. The previous Department Head, David Shumaker (a very active member of the SLA DC Chapter) has accepted a position as Clinical Associate Professor/Director Information Commons, at Catholic University in Maryland. The MITRE Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that manages three Federally Funded R&D Centers for the US Government. There a many active SLA Boston Chapter members who work with Ethel at MITRE so it is quite a lot of fun going to work!

On August 7, 2006 Anne Stemlar joined Goodwin Procter LLP as Director of Information Resources. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Anne worked at WilmerHale, formerly Hale and Dorr, for 10 years and was responsible for the Research Services area of their library. Anne also previously held information resources positions at Peabody & Brown and Kasdorf, Lewis & Swietlik.

Stephanie White left her post as Reference Librarian at Olin College as of August 31, 2006. She is relocating to Apex, NC, in September to be closer to extended family. She may look for work in the greater Raleigh area when she arrives in NC. But in the meantime, she'll be enjoying some extra time at home with her son, Deacon, born in November 2005. Stephanie's hoping to say goodbye at the chapter kickoff in September, but otherwise she's looking forward to seeing you all again at future SLA conferences! Stephanie may be reached at librariansteph@gmail.com .
