Winter 2006 Volume 71, Number 4 News & Notes Laurie Allen notes that she has left Raytheon and has moved to Southern California, where she’ll be looking for a new job. Roberta Preve, formerly of Raytheon in Waltham will be replacing her in Woburn. April Baglole was promoted to Manager of Research and Information Services at Houghton Mifflin Company. April has been with Houghton Mifflin for 5 years. In addition to maintaining a small-but-mighty physical collection, and a growing Intranet portal, she continues to provide information services to varied groups and individuals in all levels of the organization. Lauren J. Beaumont was recently promoted to Research Manager for the Northeast Advisory practice at KPMG LLP. Judy Blaine has taken a new part-time position as the information specialist at a very small non-profit organization, the Silent Spring Institute in Newton, MA. Beth Cook, a new SLA member, recently joined Analog Devices' (ADI) Norwood, MA, headquarters site as an Information Resources Consultant. She comes to ADI with a background in research and consulting, having worked for private consulting firms in Newtonville, MA, and Rochester, NY. She received her MLS from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2003. Betty Edwards of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and Alan Thibeault of the Boston Herald were members of a panel which spoke on the topic of "A Career in Library and Information Science: Strategies, Choices & Insights." It was held on October 19, 2006 at Simmons College and was sponsored by the GSLIS Alumni Executive Board. Margaret Shue of InfoCurrent was the organizer and moderator. Sharon Lane has joined Bain & Company, Inc. as a Senior Research Specialist in the Boston office. Sharon worked at Bain from 1995-2000 in both the Boston and Singapore offices and has since held positions at Putnam Investments and at Fidelity Investments. Tod McMahon has accepted a part-time position as Archivist for the City of Newton reporting to the City Clerk. The primary responsibilities of the position are supporting the information needs of municipal employees, developing a disaster recovery plan and collection reorganization and conservation. Tod will be looking for volunteers and interns in the near future to assist him on specific projects. Sandra Nawrocki has joined Raytheon's IDS division in Tewksbury, MA as a Research Librarian. She is currently enrolled at the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Colin Wilkins has joined the staff of the Boston Herald as a part-time Research Librarian. Colin is a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina. He is currently enrolled at the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science. On Sunday, November 26, 2006 Gregory Niccolo Ware was born. He weighed in at 6 lbs-4 oz and was 18 inches long. All are healthy and happy, though tired! Congratulations to Dave Ware and his wife Cathy! |
