In memory of Kathy Greey
May 8, 1937 - December 27, 2000
Kathy Greey, education librarian at Portland State University from 1967-1997, was a longtime member of the Oregon chapter of Special Libraries Association. On the surface she was quiet and unassuming, but her demeanor hid a lively sense of fun and willing helpfulness which she bestowed on the people around her and the organizations she belonged to. SLA was only one group to benefit from Kathy's character and abilities.
She helped with many chapter functions, worked on committees over the years, and pitched in on projects. In recent years she had served on the Nominating Committee several times and was instrumental in fostering the relationship between our SLA chapter and the Emporia State library science program. In addition she lent a willing ear and offered sound advice as a mentor to other librarians. While none of these activities won great public recognition at the time, they are the bedrock of chapter success.
In hope that other members of the chapter will model themselves on Kathy, we have established the Kathy Greey Memorial Award to be given annually to a member who exemplifies Kathy's dedication, service to the chapter, and mentorship to others.

She graduated from Corvallis High School and received a bachelor's degree from Oregon State College in 1959 and a master's degree in library science from the University of Denver in 1960. She was an education librarian for Portland State University for about 30 years before her retirement in 1997. She was a member and volunteer for the First Unitarian Church and a volunteer for the Friends of Multnomah County Library Book Store, the Chinese Garden and UNICEF. She was a fund-raiser for the Simon Benson House and a board member of the Portland Community Association.
