Wear your walking shoes and be prepared for a fascinating tour and talk at the Albuquerque Publishing Company. We will tour the production area and see the presses rolling; visit with John Fleck, the Science news reporter and see how we can get OUR news into print; and talk with Nancy Tipton who maintains the Web page. We will also have the opportunity to take a close-up look at the Library with librarian Judy Pence, where we can find out how decisions are made as to what the "morgue" database of prose and pictures will contain, when materials have to go in and what services are provided for the publishing company and the public.
At noon, we will repair to Peppers Restaurant, at the nearby Courtyard at the Marriott. Several of our members who will be attending the Midwinter Meeting in San Francisco will report on current activities.
Contact Judith Bernstein if you are attending and will lunch with us or
for further information.

Start the afternoon with lunch at High Noon at 1:00. Meet at 2:00 pm at the Security Desk in the Museum lobby for a fascinating inside tour of the museums' collections with Jackie McConachie. Jackie will show us their fine collection of shells, mammals, and plants and describe the preparation of specimens (even show us her "bug room" where insects clean the skeletons of small mammals and birds) as well as the database which she is creating. We will then meet Gary Morgan, fossil curator, at the Annex building who will describe how the ledgers and databases are kept which describe their specimens and how they are cataloged. We will hopefully have time to see the collection of micro mammal teeth and minerals as well as the fossils.
Let Judith Bernstein know if you are coming for lunch and/or the tour,
or contact her for further information.
