The following Board positions are valid for 2009. No balloting is necessary.

Elaine Lasda Bergman - President-Elect for the term of 2009:

Elaine Lasda Bergman is the Reference and Gerontology Bibliographer for the Dewey Graduate Library at the University at Albany. Her main responsibilities are to incorporate technology into library services and manage the collection for her assigned subjects. Elaine currently serves as the UNYSLA Local Area Meetings Co-chair for the Albany Area, and has served as Membership Committee Chair, and Secretary in past years.
 
Prior to her full time appointment at the University, Ms. Lasda Bergman was the Librarian at the Healthcare Association of New York State, a not-for-profit trade association representing hospitals and health care systems statewide.  Elaine is also involved with the New York Library Association, currently serving as Past-President of the New Members Round Table and Treasurer of the Academic and Special Libraries Section.  She holds an MLS from the University at Albany, received in 1996, and a BA in History from SUNY Oswego, received in 1990.

Elaine feels that the professional development and networking opportunities afforded by SLA have enhanced her job performance, and looks forward to developing programs and events that will benefit other UNYSLA members as well.

 

A. Ben Wagner - Secretary for the term of 2009:

A. Ben Wagner joined the faculty of the University at Buffalo (UB) Science and Engineering Library as Sciences Librarian in June 2001 and received tenure in 2004.  He is the departmental liaison and subject specialist in chemistry and physics. 

Ben received the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship in 2006.  He as served as a director and as treasurer of our Upstate New York Chapter.  This year Ben is completing a three-cycle as chair-elect/chair/past chair of the SLA Chemistry Division, having previously served as secretary for the division.  Serving as secretary of UNYSLA would provide him with a welcome opportunity to renew closer ties with our chapter.  

Prior to his UB position, Ben had a 26-year career at the Technical Information Center of Occidental Chemical's Technology Department on Grand Island, NY, eventually serving as Team Leader/Director of the Library. 

Ben received his bachelor’s in Chemistry from Bloomsburg University and his master’s in Library & Information Science from Drexel University. 

 

Christian Miller - Treasurer for the term of 2009-2010:

Christian Miller is the Reference, Instruction and Outreach Coordinator for the Martin P. Catherwood Library in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, as well as an adjunct instructor of a for-credit library skills class taught online through the University of Maryland – University College.

Previously, Christian was the Head of Public Services at the Scientific Library of the National Cancer Institute-Frederick and prior to that was an Information Specialist at the
University of Maryland – Baltimore. He received his MLS degree from the University of Maryland – College Park. Christian is currently a member of the SLA Upstate Advisory Board as List Manager and COP Facilitator.

 

Charles Lyons - Director, Vendor Relations for the term of 2009-2010:

Charles Lyons is the Business and Management Librarian at the University at Buffalo.  Charles previously worked in the corporate library at Lehman Brothers and in the Science and Engineering Library at the University of Virginia. In both of these roles, he worked extensively with data vendors and publishers.

His MLS is from Drexel University and he currently serves on UNYSLA's Web Committee. He maintains a blog called A Business Librarian's Blog at http://bizbrarians.tumblr.com/.
