CI at SLA 2014

A new post in our series about attending SLA 2014. Read Lynn Strand’s post below, and the previous series posts here.

I am delighted to be able to attend SLA 2014 in Vancouver. I missed San Diego [in 2013] and it was the first time I’d missed an annual conference since 2007. I attended that conference as a freshly minted MLIS with hopes, dreams and plans to dominate the Special Library World! Now with perspective, age and (slightly) more wisdom I am ready to hit the Canadian Pacific Northwest and get smart(er), connected and inspired.

Lynn StrandIn my role as market intelligence lead for FICO, a global predictive analytics firm, I supply market and industry trend research, competitive intelligence, and answers to market sizing and market share questions. Over the past year, I have been serving as the Competitive Intelligence Division’s conference planner so I’m a bit biased towards our sessions. We have a great slate of learning opportunities this year and I am particularly looking forward to these:

Of course, what SLA conference would be complete without parties? So many to choose from…vendor dinners, division open houses, INFO-EXPO cocktail hours…onsite and offsite there are ample opportunities to catch up with old friends, colleagues and new friends. I’m excited for the CI Division Networking Cocktail party at the Fish House in Stanley Park (followed later that evening by the always awesome IT Dance Party!) and all of the no-host dinners and dine arounds.

Any large business structure consists of several units, and local teams are formed in each department who are competing with each other. Spy app can play a key role in this struggle.
