Life in the Fast Lane
Businesses today contend with dramatic amounts and
complexity of change. Our challenge goes beyond teaching people how
to cope, how to manage their stress, or how to merely adjust
to disruptions in the workplace. We must prepare people at all
levels to remain high performers during turbulent times, teaching
them how to:
·
Quickly regain their equilibrium after expectations are disrupted
·
Maintain high levels of productivity during ambiguity
·
Remain physically and emotionally healthy while
struggling with uncertainty
·
Rebound from the demands of change even stronger than before
Individuals able to demonstrate these characteristics are
referred to as being resilient to change. LIFE IN THE FAST LANE
is designed around these characteristics of personal resilience.

Annual William B. Neff Scholarship Dinner
This year the Annual William B. Neff Scholarship Dinner will
be held at the Slippery Noodle Inn, located in the oldest
commercial building left standing in Indianapolis. Listed on the National
Registrar, the building's varied history includes being an
Underground Railroad Station, a reputed Dillinger hang-out, a bordello,
and bootleg distillery. All this activity was in former times, of
course! Now the Noodle is noted for great food in a unique setting. It's
an easy stroll from the Convention Center. Everyone is welcome
to come and join us for dinner in an interesting, informal setting. Slippery
Noodle Inn is located at 372 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.
We'll also have a tour of some of the unique features of
the building such as the basement jail cells and the "guest" rooms.
Cost includes dinner, tax, tip and contribution to the Bill
Neff Scholarship Fund. There will be three entree choices: Beef
Stroganoff, Ziti Marinara (vegetarian) and Grilled Chicken Breast.
No advance selection is necessary. Please send your check (made
to MAHD with a "Neff Dinner" notation) to: Joseph Hovish,
Treasurer, P.O. Box 44682, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Reservations
deadline is June 1. See you there!

1998 President's Reception
Join Special Libraries Association President Judith J. Field at SLA's
Fourth Annual President's Reception, a celebration of professional achievement
in library and information science. President Field will host this opening
ceremony along with representatives from the local political and business
communities. Cocktails and hot and cold hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The event will take place at Indianapolis' Eiteljorg
Museum, featuring the rich culture of Native Americans and the romance
of the West. The museum opened in 1989 founded through the
collections of Indianapolis businessman Harrison Eiteljorg and the
holdings of the former Museum of Indian Heritage at Eagle Creek
Park. Eiteljorg has served as the primary venue for Native American
art and culture in Indiana and is the only museum in the Midwest
to offer extensive collections of both Native American and
American Western art.
Located in the heart of downtown, the 73,000 square foot
museum has carved out a unique niche in the cultural landscape of the
city. Inspired by the beauty and architecture of the Southwest, the
Eiteljorg is a combination of stone, copper, oak, and mahogany. The
building itself has become an architectural landmark and is within
walking distance of the Convention Center and major downtown hotels.
The rich tones, grand staircase and panoramic view of downtown make
it a spectacular setting for SLA's 1998 President's Reception.
Don't miss this opportunity to network with peers prior to
the Annual Conference! The President's Reception is sure to be a sold
out event once again. All proceeds from the event will benefit
Special Libraries Association's Leadership Development activities.
Cost of this event: $100.00
