    Electronic Serials Choices
    The promise of electronic serials to deliver journal articles directly to user desktops is challenging information professionals to maximize their investments in human and physical resources for these new products. Elsevier Science and Wiley will demonstrate their electronic title offerings and how these products can be integrated with current journal collections. Frances L. Knudson of the Research Library at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) will discuss a project that generates electronic journal Web pages from information contained in an online catalog record, allowing users multiple access points to electronic journals, provide consistent and timely access, and to accomplish with minimal staff time.

    Evaluations: Threat or Opportunity
    Many professional, as well as paraprofessional library staff dread that week when someone is performing an evaluation on them or it is their turn to evaluate their employees. What are some innovative developments in the evaluation process? How can you use evaluations to effect positive change in your employees? How should you be leveraging your evaluation to advance your own career goals? This program will address these issues, as well as new ways of evaluating employees, including the 360 method. A Human Resources professional will present the issues and provide insights into newer evaluation models being used successfully today; following that presentation, a library manager will offer insights on using evaluations as an effective management tool. The audience will have to opportunity to ask questions and learn how to benefit from the evaluation process.

    Indiana Agricultural History Luncheon with Leo Landis
    Leo E. Landis is currently Curator of Agriculture at the Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. From 1992 to 1995, he was the Associate Curator at Conner Prairie, an open-air living history museum featuring recreated pioneer life, located in Fishers, Indiana. His background is in public history with an interest in material culture. Landis has published and given numerous presentations on agricultural history. His book, Building Better Roads: The Iowa Contribution to Highway Engineering has been nominated for the best book on a topic in Iowa history for 1997 by the State Historical society of Iowa.
    Landis became interested in Indiana agricultural and rural history while at Conner Prairie. At this luncheon, he will speak and share his interest in Indiana agricultural history.

    Philanthropy on the WebThe Nonprofit's Link to the Future 

    The amount of philanthropic information on the Internet has expanded considerably in recent years as the number of nonprofit institutions and foundations with their own websites has shown a rapid increase. David Mitchum from the Foundation Center will demonstrate how to use the Foundation Center's website and also how to access over two hundred links to other websites pertaining to philanthropy and fundraising. Janet Huettner and her associates will describe the website of the Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library. They will discuss the recent transfer of the Philanthropic Studies Index to an online database accessing the literature of the nonprofit sector, including topics such as fundraising, nonprofit organization management, charitable contributions, volunteers, and donors. They will also demonstrate use of the library's online catalog, which includes links to electronic full-text works on those topics.

    With the advent of vast technological advances in the information arena, coupled with the birth of new nation-states (especially in Eastern Europe), it is time to consider information, and specifically transportation information, not simply from the vantage point of one country (e.g. USA) or one region (North America) but recognize the global nature and interdependence of the field. International cooperation among information professionals will enable us to be better equipped as we stand poised to enter the 21st century.

    Visit to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis
    This is a visit for children of all ages! The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is the largest and one of the best known participatory children's museums in the country. Now in a new building, the Museum continues its theme of learning about how the world worksand having fun, too. The visit offers alternatives: You may select the docent-guided tour and do neat stuff such as explore a cave, hunt for fossils, or eavesdrop on some family folklore (Ticket A). Or you may select a look-behind-the-scenes with the curator (Ticket B). The second ticket is limited to 14 participants. 
    The bus will leave the museum promptly at 3:50 p.m. for those who have to be back at the conference area downtown. If you don't have a prior commitmentor you just cannot drag yourself awayyou may stay on until closing time and take a city bus 30 blocks straight south on Meridian. 
    Cost includes admission fee and transportation. Ticket A is limited to 30, and Ticket B to 14. Be sure to select the desired ticket!
