History of the Chapter

The San Andreas chapter was founded January 1, 1980 by a group of members from the San Francisco Chapter. The First official chapter meeting takes place July 1980.

1982

  • Creation of joint San Andreas/San Francisco membership directory -- very popular among members

1985

  • December FaultLine becomes to official name of the San Andreas Chapter Bulletin

1987

  • First San Andreas Long Range Planning committee established

1989

  • Chapter prepares for 10th Anniversary celebration by strengthening brand and developing a logo
  • October 17, 1989, at 5:04:15 Loma Prieta earthquake the same day as a joint San Andreas/San Francisco meeting
    Librarians brought together by chapter after Earthquake to share experiences in recovery, restoration and salvation.

1990

  • First Mark Baer Award given to recognize a member of the chapter who has greatly contributed to the chapter, association and or profession. Mark Baer was the first provisional president of the chapter in 1980.

1992

  • San Andreas pitched in to help with the Annual Conference in San Francisco

1993

  • San Andreas unofficially names itself the "Technology Chapter" and outlines its plans in the January 1993 issue of FaultLine

2005

  • San Andreas Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Chapter
  • San Andreas Board term changes to calendar year term January to January

2006

  • Lucy Steelman award is created to recognize a San Andreas Chapter member who has mentored colleagues in any number of ways. The first recipient is Eric Kristofferson
  • December 16, 2006 the first SLA San Andreas Chapter blog post is placed on the blog

2008

  • San Andreas chapter hosts first Information Ethics Town Hall Meeting to discuss and obtain feedback on ethical issues that members encounter in providing information services to their users

2009

  • San Andreas chapter hosts a very successful program on Twitter
  • Due to the downturn in the economy the San Andreas Chapter hosts several meetings focused on Career development and job searching using traditional tools such as networking and resumes and web 2.0 tools such as LinkedIn
