CHAPTER PRACTICES
It is the practice of Special Libraries Association to establish guidelines for chapter presidents and presidents-elect. The guidelines delineate the responsibilities of key officers and should aid in the understanding of the relationship among chapter officers, Association officers and units.
These Guidelines are intended to serve as a reference for chapter presidents and presidents-elect. They contain valuable, "must know" information on chapter responsibilities, association structure, and policies and procedures.
The strength of the Association as a whole is greatly dependent upon the strength of the chapters. The organization and activities of the chapters are carried out within the framework of the Association. SLA receives direct impetus in its professional activities from the work and support of the chapters and through cooperative projects undertaken by two or more chapters. In turn, chapters receive the benefit of an international body for the collective promotion and advancement of the library profession.
Guidelines are placed on the SLA website and/or copies can be requested from SLA Headquarters. Guidelines are updated annually.
In cooperation with the Director, Leadership/Member Services, the Chapter Cabinet Chair and Chair-Elect are responsible for administering this policy.
