PRACTICES FOR SPEAKER FEES AND HONORARIA

I. Practice

It is the practice of the Special Libraries Association to provide compensation for any SLA member participating as an expert/consultant in a SLA-sponsored (Association-wide) activity to receive the same consideration for remuneration as nonmember participants in the same activity.

II. Purpose

The provision of fees or awards of honoraria for members in this policy is intended to provide compensation for member's participation in seminars, educational programs or the like in which the member's activity is undertaken to advance the programs and objectives of the Association or one of its units.

III. Practice/Procedure

By action of the SLA Board of Directors in June 1980 (M.186.4-6/80), any SLA member participating as an expert/consultant in a SLA-sponsored (Association-wide) activity will receive the same consideration for remuneration as nonmember participants in the same activity.

The member may be offered a reasonable fee or an honorarium provided that such fee or honorarium has been approved and budgeted.

Payment of fees or award of honoraria to Association members for participation in Association activities other than regular Conferences or meetings may be made by the Association or its units provided that the activity (and the budget of the activity) for which payment is offered has been approved by the Association and/or by the appropriate unit of the Association.

Payment of fees or award of honoraria to Association members must be in compliance with appropriate SLA policies and procedures.

IV. Responsibility

The Executive Director is responsible for monitoring the compliance with this policy.
