SLA CAREER AND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
It is the policy of the special Libraries Association to provide career and employment services to members.
The purpose of this policy is to outline the different employment services available to members.
The SLA Career and Employment Services will be operated by the Professional Development Department. Two types of services are offered:
1. Annual Conference
A. The Employment Clearinghouse
B. The Career Advisory Service
2. Throughout the Year
A. "Positions Open"
Listings of "Positions Open" will be accepted from employers in accordance with Association policies and with the guidelines established by the Board of Directors for advertisement in Information Outlook.
Advertisements that refer to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex or any other form of discriminatory practice will not be accepted.
A fee of $15 per line will be charged for each listing of each "Position Open." Rates are based on 43 characters.
Since SLA is a non-for-profit organization, the fee charged to employers for "Positions Open" will only cover part of the costs of typing, printing, postage and list maintenance.
An employer has an ethical responsibility to reply to each candidate who answers his advertisement in Information Outlook.
B. SpeciaLine
A comprehensive, year-round telephone employment hotline that provides a biweekly recording of positions available in special libraries and information centers nationwide and overseas.
A fee of $50 will be charged to employers for each two week listing.
All listings are supplied by equal opportunity employers.
C. Resume Evaluation Service
Provides members with resume writing or evaluation by a library/employment consultant. Three levels of service are available.
A fee will be charged for each level:
Level One - $40 member/$50 non-member
Level Two - $80 member/$100 non-member
Level Three - $125 member/$150 non-member
The Director, Professional Development is responsible for administering all aspects of the Career and Employment Services under the direction of the Executive Director and with the assistance of the SLA officers and staff.
