PRACTICES FOR CHAPTER LEVEL AFFIRMATIVE ACTION CHAIRS
It is the practice of Special Libraries Association to have Guidelines for Chapter Level Affirmative Action Chairs.
To assure that chapters work to support programs of the Affirmative Action Committee and to promote recruitment of minorities into special librarian work.
Guidelines for Affirmative Action Chairs:
A. Attend meetings for the Affirmative Action Committee at SLA Conferences.
B. Support Affirmative Action programs for librarians.
Suggestions for implementation
1. Actively support goals and objectives of the Affirmative Action Committee.
2 Present local programs emphasizing Affirmative Action
3. Be informed about minority recruitment programs of various library associations, and state and local recruitment efforts.
C. Be responsible for recruitment of minority group persons into special library work, in cooperation with the Chapter Career Guidance Chair.
Suggestions for implementation
1. Distribute affirmative action brochures
2. Disseminate scholarship information.
3. Serve as a resource person for minority recruitment efforts of nearby graduate library schools and other institutions of higher education.
D. Recruit minority special librarians and information specialists into active participation in SLA.
Suggestions for implementation
1. Distribute the Diversity Leadership Development Program information/applications.
The Affirmative Action Committee, in cooperation with the Director, Membership Development, is responsible for assuring that each chapter follow this policy.
