SLA CONTINUING EDUCATION CO-SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
It is the practice of the Special Libraries Association to provide guidelines covering procedures and responsibilities for Chapter and Non-Chapter co-sponsorship of Continuing Education courses with SLA headquarters.
The purpose is to describe the practices and procedures involved in the co-sponsorship of a Continuing Education course.
Upon Chapter request, SLA headquarters will provide any or all of the services listed below for a flat fee of $300 (which is non-refundable and payable in advance of the course offering) plus, if the course has 15 or more registrants, SLA will receive $5 per registrant. CEU certificates, if desired, will be provided at an additional cost of $5 per participant. (This cost will be invoiced along with the other costs mentioned below.)
The total cost will vary depending on the honorarium of the instructor, length of the course/stay, and the cost of travel. We will calculate the cost for co-sponsorship after you have narrowed down your choices to a couple of courses. If you do not see a course you want, we will work with you to customize one for your group. You do not pay for certain costs until after the course, allowing you to collect registration fees first. SLA provides this added benefit by paying the instructor and invoicing co-sponsorship costs.
SLA services may include any or all of the following:
- Initial program consultation
- Speaker search, selection and negotiation of honorarium
- Promotional assistance through the SLA journal, the monthly newsletter of SLA, mailings to Chapter/Division bulletin editors and press releases (dependent on space available and copy deadlines)
- Bulk mailing at $30.00 per 100 which includes labeling, sorting, bundling, and postage
- Provision of Continuing Education Unit (CEU) certificates
- Data entry in Computer CEU Transcript Program
- Provision of name badges and holders
- Course roster/sign-in sheets and evaluation forms
Chapter responsibilities include:
- Promotion, including production of brochure/flyer, acquisition of mailing lists

- Determining costs (with assistance of SLA headquarters if desired)

You must provide SLA with a list of attendees two weeks before the course begins to allow for processing.
