GIFTS AND BEQUESTS

I. Practice

It is the practice of Special Libraries Association to examine all gifts and bequests to ensure that they meet the Association's policies, mission, purpose and program, prior to their acceptance. In addition, for any restricted bequest over $15,000, the Chief Executive Officer shall review and discuss action with the President and following the review of restricted gifts or bequests of $20,000 or more the Chief Executive Officer shall discuss action with the President. For amounts less than the above stated amounts, the Executive Director shall direct the use of the gift or bequest.  

II. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to stipulate the manner in which gifts and bequests from individuals and/organizations may be accepted and appropriated whether restricted or unrestricted.

III. Practice/Procedure

All gifts and bequests, restricted or unrestricted, shall be examined according to the Association's policies, mission, purpose and program, prior to their acceptance. The Chief Executive Officer can make a determination as to the appropriateness of gifts and bequests for sums less that $15,000 given without restrictions.

IV. Responsibility

The Chief Executive Officer in cooperation with the President have responsibility for administering this policy.
