INFORMATION RESOURCES CENTER MISSION

I. Practice

It is the practice of the Special Libraries Association to maintain an Information Resources Center(IRC).

II. Purpose

To support the activities and purposes of the Special Libraries Association, and to act as an information center for the Association staff and the elected leaders of SLA in the performance of their duties for the Association, for the members of the Association, and for the general public.

III. Practice/Procedure

Role of the IRC

The Information Resources Center currently plays a variety of roles within the Association and in the community at large:

1. A pipeline for staff to further and enhance program development based on expressed member needs;

2. A special library and information services organization for Association staff and the elected leadership of SLA in the performance of their duties for the Association;

3. A central resource agency, with a collection of materials focused on special librarianship and information services management;

4. Organizational archives, including current records management; and

5. A marketing tool for membership development.

IV. Responsibility

The overall administration of this policy is the responsibility of the Manager, Information Resources with oversight from the Assistant Executive Director for Programs &Development.
