UNIT EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PRACTICE
I. Practice
It is the practice of the Special Libraries Association to assist its members in obtaining employment in the information field.
II. Purpose
Unit employment services provide members with a local source of information on job opportunities, enhancing the value of membership. Activities such as telephone joblines, advertisements in Unit newsletters, online bulletin boards, referral services and job clearinghouses increase the changes of obtaining employment and provide networking opportunities for job seekers.
III. Practice/Procedure
1. Units may undertake a variety of employment and career related activities. Typical services include:
Telephone joblines
Online bulletin boards
Advertisements in Unit newsletter
Referral services and clearinghouses
2. Units may provide job-seekers with any pertinent information on job openings, positions available, etc. However, they may not provide resumes or similar information to employers. This restriction is necessary to protect job-seekers' current employment and minimize the Association's risk of legal exposure.
3. Unit employment chairs should be familiar with the employment services offered by Association headquarters and encourage members to use those services appropriate to their needs.
IV. Responsibility
In cooperation with the Managing Director, Leadership, it is the responsibility of each Unit to ensure that its employment services are operated in accordance with this policy.
