RECIPROCAL ANNUAL CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEES POLICY
I. Policy
It is a policy that the Association should pursue avenues of cooperation with other library and information associations as well as other organizations having similar interest in information-related issues and topics. One avenue of approach would be to establish a reciprocal annual conference member rate registration fee.
II. Purpose
To effect change in the environment in which it operates, the Association will seek stronger relations with other library and information associations, as well as other organizations having similar interest in information-related issues and topics. Encouraging attendance at the SLA Annual Conference by members of other related information associations, as well as encouraging SLA members to attend annual conferences of other related information associations, increases the opportunities for SLA members to expand their influence to new and changing audiences. It enables special librarians to create new partnerships between information professionals and their organizations that would not exist unless encouraged.
III. Practice/Procedure
There must be a clear and beneficial reason for SLA to enter any reciprocal conference registration fee agreement. In instituting such as agreement, the following should be taken into consideration:
• the other organization must have similar interest in information-related issues and topics as SLA;
• to assist in the development of the concept to work with appropriate organizations to develop recruitment programs for special librarianship; and
• to seek stronger relations with other library and information associations.
That any such agreement undertaken between SLA and another organization be reciprocal.
That any such agreement entered into be reviewed every five years.
That any such agreement may be terminated by either party in writing six (6) months prior to conference. That all practices and procedures remain flexible to work within an information environment that is influenced by demographics, economic conditions, and technology.
IV. Responsibility
Under the guidance of the Executive Director the Association may, from time to time, enter into an agreement to offer reciprocal member conference registration rates between an appropriate organization and the Special Libraries Association so that said members may attend the annual conference at preferred member conference rates.
That the establishment and management of any agreement shall fall under the guidance and control of the Association’s Executive Office with operational activities to be the responsibility of the conference staff.
