

Mirroring SLA’s Global Vision from a large international law firm with 500 attorneys in four countries for ten years, Lawrence Guthrie, as Chair of the SLA Legal Division (1999-2000) cemented official liaisons with law librarian associations in Canada (CALL), Britain and Ireland (BIALL) , and Australia (ALLG), and is acknowledged in International Studies in Human Rights (Vol.41).
Following Georgetown, an MA from Oklahoma, including a psychoanalytic overview with Anna Freud in London; Lawrence taught college Psychology and Human Relations before returning to Washington when his mother was appointed to President Reagan’s White House Staff. Upon completing an MSLS from Catholic University, he became a law librarian at George Washington University for 5 years, then on to Covington & Burling, (the firm of Dean Acheson until his FDR appointment) .
Among Lawrence’s honors are serving as a Moderator of the last White House Conference on Libraries, as Chair of the SLA Copyright Committee, and Legal Division ( currently its Chair of the International Relations Committee) and as planner of many SLA Conference programs. He has represented SLA at the BIALL, CALL and AALL conferences; is the author of 26 articles ranging from researching Woody Guthrie copyrights at the Library of Congress, to WIPO Treaties, to medieval cataloging (cited on the ALA website). He is co-author of one book, one e-book; and has been acknowledged in 4 books, one article and on one law library cornerstone. He is a member of the National Press Club, and enjoys ice hockey, baseball, and sailing.
