2005/06 Board Candidate James E. Manasco
2005/06 Board Candidate James E. Manasco

James E. Manasco is Special Collections Librarian at the University of Louisville’s Ekstrom Library. He received both his BA and MSLS from the University of Kentucky. Although a life-long University of Kentucky Wildcats fan, James has mostly learned to acclimatize to working at his alma mater’s arch rival...mostly.

Previously, James first served for three years as Natural Sciences Liaison Librarian at The Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Longing to return to the Promised Land, he became Head Librarian at the Shaver Library of Engineering at the University of Kentucky in November 1999. While enjoying greatly being back at UK, James chose to go to the University of Louisville in order to live in the same town with his new wife, Melanie. He first served as Coordinator of Liaison Activities for the Kornhauser Health Sciences Library in July 2003. A year later, James transferred to the main campus library’s Special Collections department.

Professionally, James has been quite active. In the Kentucky Library Association, James has served as Chair of the Library Administration and Management Round Table and is currently Chair of the African American Librarians and Library Employees Round Table (AALLERT). He is also a member of the Kentucky Council on Archives.

James has been a member of SLA since 1994. He is a member of the Kentucky Chapter, the Science-Technology Division, the Physics-Astronomy-Mathematics Division and the Information Technology Division. James has served, at various times, as President, Director and co-editor of the chapter bulletin for the Kentucky Chapter. He has also served as Chair of the Science-Technology Division and is currently Baltimore Program Planner for the Information Technology Division. He previously served on the Association’s Public Relations Committee. James received the 2003-2004 Professional Award from the Kentucky Chapter.

His interests and hobbies include: reading anything Sci-Fi/fantasy or having to do with the history of women in the USA, having way too much fun at SLA Open Houses, and living and dying by how the Kentucky Wildcats are doing.
