

Dav Robertson has helped guide SLA for the past three years as the Chapter Cabinet Chair and Chair-Elect, as Secretary on the Board of Directors, and as a current member of the Finance Committee. During his tenure, the 2002-2004 Board selected the new Executive Director and new building for SLA. Dav assisted with establishing the new Australia and New Zealand Chapter, with re-focusing the Leadership Summit, and with formulating the initiative on dues restructuring. An SLA member since 1977, Dav served as President of the North Carolina Chapter and as Chair of the Environment and Resource Management Division. He holds membership in LMD, IT, BIO and other Divisions, and served on SLA’s Professional Development and Strategic Planning Committees.
As an ex-Peace Corps Volunteer, Dav has an interest in the international arena. He is Chair of the Task Force on Natural Disasters, which is developing a way to leverage SLA’s competencies to assist with information response when disasters such as the recent tsunami occur.
Dav has 28 years of experience building and managing a research library. He is Library Director at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (Research Triangle Park, NC), one of the U. S. National Institutes of Health. Dav has mentored over 100 students through the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science Internship Program at EPA and NIEHS since 1975. He was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by UNC-SILS (2004), and he was named a Fellow of SLA (2005). Dav is a speaker on metadata, ontologies, and the role librarians can play in the development of the Semantic Web.
Dav and his wife Eliza live outside of Chapel Hill and have a passion for the NC mountains. Eliza is also a librarian and is the NC/SLA Chapter President. They have two sons and expect a granddaughter in August!
