2005/06 Board Candidate Sylvia James


Sylvia James has been working for the last 17 years as an independent management and research consultant. Before this she worked for 20 years in various positions in research for financial service companies and multinational companies including 8 years as Head of Research & Information at Credit Suisse First Boston, the international investment bank, in London. She lives and works in England.

 

Her speciality is business research, especially researching and analysing companies all over the world, preparing individual research projects for clients. From this experience, Sylvia designs all kinds of training courses on business information, which she presents all over the world and writes widely in journals on business information. She makes regular contributions to "Business Information Alert", "Business Information Review" and "BF Bulletin."

Another area of expertise is international financial services, particularly on the global financial centres of London, New York and Tokyo. Although she has worked on many projects, preparing and presenting basic level training courses and writing and editing in the whole complex sector, she has been particularly involved in the areas of investment management and corporate finance. Recent projects have included editing a European fund management directory and assessing and analysing the structure of the corporate finance communities in Europe.

Sylvia has worked at Chapter, Division and Association wide levels in SLA for many years and is a fellow of SLA. She is currently immediate past Chair of the Business & Finance Division, International Relations Chair of the Insurance and Employee Benefits Division and Treasurer of SLA Europe.
