SLA Board Conference Call Minutes

The conference call was called to order by Gloria Zamora at 12:02 pm US Eastern Time

  4. Executive Session Item

  5. Alignment update (Lachance)
    Lachance confirmed the portal had launched and thanks to Hunt, Sweeney and Lee for their feedback on its development. She also said training for Alignment Ambassadors is to take place later this month.

  6. Visits (Caputo, Lachance and Zamora)
    Lachance explained that SLA had a terrific meeting at IFLA with four current/past SLA board members in attendance. Lachance has been elected Chair of the Management of Library Associations Section at IFLA.

    Lachance is travelling in September/October including: keynoting at the German Special Libraries Association conference on 22 September; visiting Upstate New York Chapter on 25 September; from October 5-8 she will be attending and speaking at an international conference on academic libraries in Delhi and will be keynoting at another conference in Jaipur on 9 October, this is followed by various other meetings in India. From India she heads to Germany to keynote on the future of the profession at the Frankfurt Book Fair on 15 October; followed by two events where she will speak with info pros and libraries sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Munich and Hamburg.

    Caputo gave a talk at a special libraries class at the University of Maryland. She also attended a dinner meeting of the Oregon Chapter at which the alignment was discussed. She was also invited to talk to first and second year students at Emporia State University and was delighted when 70 people attended. She attended a library leaders meeting in DC to discuss the alignment project. In October she is attending meetings with New Jersey and Illinois Chapters.

    Zamora attending meetings with the Michigan and Minnesota Chapters and Kentucky library school during September. She is travelling to Rocky Mountain and Maryland Chapters in October.

  7. New Business
    Caputo updated board on her discussions with Australia/New Zealand Chapter. There have been two conference calls to discuss issues of membership and problems filling key chapter posts. Suggestions being considered are splitting the chapter into two; using chapter idea bank for help in finding solutions; and speaking to the academic community to see if there are any options for increasing membership there. Follow up call to see how things are progressing is planned in 6 weeks.

    Zamora reminded everyone that elections opened this week and she wished everyone good luck.

    Blankson-Hemans thanked the board for helping to steer the candidates through the process.

    Caputo reminded everyone that there would be two call in sessions for President-Elect candidates? beginning 21 September; timing of calls is to benefit international chapters.
