

Nettie Seaberry

Nettie Seaberry is the Director of the Minority Business Information Center at the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) in New York City. NMSDC, is a private non-profit organization that expands business opportunities for minority-owned companies. This organization encourages mutually beneficial economic links between minority suppliers and the public and private sectors, and helps build a stronger, more equitable society by supporting and promoting minority business development. As a solo librarian she is responsible for development, implementation and administration of the Information Center, establishing policies, collection development and management, research, staff supervision, information technology management and webmaster for the national office. For the past 12 years she has also been given the added responsibility of coordinating and oversee the entire volunteer effort to for the national annual conferences of her organization; requiring the oversight of over 300 individuals for each conference.
Before joining NMSDC in 1994, she spent 20 years with Reader's Digest. She was the Research Librarian for the General Books Division of Reader's Digest (1986-1994). Prior to joining the General Books Division she was head librarian for the Editorial Research Library at Reader's Digest (1974-1986) where she serviced both the New York based and international editorial offices located in Mexico, London and Paris to name a few.
Since 1988, she has been an active member of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), where she has held several leadership positions at the local and national levels. Nettie has chaired the Affirmative Action Committee. Was an originator of two caucuses, the Diverse Issues (1991), and Gay and Lesbian Issues Caucus (1995); served on the Nominating Committee (1993-94); spearheaded the Diversity Leadership Development Program for SLA (1994 - 1996) securing an annual sponsor commitment of $5000 with EBSCO Information Services; served as the SLA New York Chapter President (1998-99); Chapter President - elect, (1997-98); SLA Endowment Fund Grant Committee chair (1998-99); New York Chapter Nominating Committee Chair, (1999-2000). She has mentored several librarians who have gone on to receive SLAs leadership awards. She currently serves as the advisor to the New York Chapter's Diversity Leadership Development Committee.
She's listed in the Cambridge and Empire Who's Who and has received a number of awards, including the Dun & Bradstreet Award for Outstanding Service to the Minority Business Communities; Rose L. Vormelker Mentoring Award, James Partridge Award for Outstanding African American Information Professionals, Special Libraries Association's President Award, and YMCA Black Achievers in Industry Award.
Ms. Seaberry earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing from Bernard M. Baruch College in New York City, and her Master's in librarianship (MLS) from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
