SLA Board of Directors Significant Accomplishments in 2005

  • Approved the creation of two new caucuses:
    o The Inclusion Caucus
    o The Architecture, Building Engineering, Construction and Design Caucus

  • Approved a new dues structure for full membership

  • Approved a dues prepayment option, whereby base dues may be paid for three years all at once to lock in current pricing, with a 10 percent discount.

  • Approved an extension of membership services for all members residing in geographic areas affected by recent natural disasters (specifically, the tsunami of December 2004; Hurricanes Katrina and Rita during August-September 2005, and the earthquake in Pakistan in October 2005) for one year at no additional cost

  • Approved a broader definition of “diversity” for use by SLA.

  • Approved the creation of a Technology Review Advisory Group to review the technology needs of units and develop a strategy to address those needs.

  • Approved the merger of the Materials Research & Manufacturing Division with the Chemistry Division effective November 1, 2005. The MRM Division became a new section of the Chemistry Division.
  • Approved a new SLA committee structure, policy and reporting plan.
