SLA's Click University Receives IACET Accreditation
Authorized Provider Status Allows SLA to
Provide Continuing Education Units to Members
Alexandria, Virginia, USA, 11 January 2007 - The Special Libraries Association announces that the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) now authorizes SLA to award the IACET Continuing Education Unit (CEU) to SLA members who complete courses through Click U, the first and only online learning system for post-graduate information professionals.
"This is great news and a significant milestone for SLA and its members. We are thrilled to be recognized for our excellence in providing education and training to our members, and being able to grant CEUs will allow us to provide more value to SLA members participating in our professional development programs," said SLA Chief Executive Officer Janice Lachance. "Click University, after only a year and half, has developed courses to meet the high standards set by IACET, and this is quite an honor and testament to the value of Click U?s training and development classes. Participants in SLA programs can feel confident that they will receive the quality training and education that will propel them to the next level of expertise in their careers."
IACET authorizes educational providers like Click U to award the IACET CEU following a strict evaluation of their educational processes according to the IACET Criteria and Guidelines, including two reviews by IACET's Commission and a site visit by an IACET Commissioner. Organizations that meet IACET's internationally recognized continuing education and training standards are approved as Authorized Providers. Authorized Providers may award IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Many states and other entities accept the IACET CEU. For a complete list, visit the IACET website: www.iacet.org.
While many organizations offer some form of continuing education credit, only Authorized Providers can award the IACET CEU. One CEU is equal to ten hours of IACET-qualified continuing education instruction. Since its inception, the CEU has evolved from a purely quantitative measure to the conventional seal of approval for excellence in training and instruction.
The first class of Click U students to receive IACET CEUs from SLA are those currently enrolled in the Competitive Intelligence Certificate Program which began on 8 January. Going forward, all courses offered through Click U that meet the IACET criteria will carry CEUs that can be applied to professional development certificates.
