SLA and SIIA Announce Strategic Alliance on Copyright Education

SLA Members Receive Discount on Content Rights Management Course
Designed Specifically for Info Pros

Alexandria, Virginia, USA, 22 February 2007 -- Special Libraries Association (SLA) and the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) today announced a strategic alliance offering SLA members a new professional development course at a discounted rate. The Certified Content Rights Manager (CCRM) course and certification was developed and is taught especially for information professionals and librarians.

The CCRM course is presented by Adam Ayer from LicenseLogic LLC, the industry's leading content rights management training organization. The course is appropriate for all professionals who purchase and manage copyrighted content and are responsible for ensuring it is used appropriately at all levels throughout their organizations.

"I am so pleased to be working with SIIA to provide librarians and information professionals continuing education opportunities that will arm them for success in today's marketplace," said Janice Lachance CEO of SLA. "As SLA members continue to utilize their skills to move into new roles across their organizations, we will continue to seek out partners that allow us to offer members timely, reputable, and relevant professional development programs. The members who have already taken this course are impressed and I am thrilled that SIIA is offering this course with a great discount for our members."

"SLA members are the perfect audience for our Certified Content Rights Manager course," said Ken Wasch, SIIA President. "We worked closely with SLA and many of its members while developing this course and their feedback and insights have helped to shape the CCRM into a world class professional development course. We're pleased to be working with them."

The program is designed to explain the ins-and-outs of developing a content rights management plan, copyright law, content licensing, and properly disseminating content throughout organizations of all sizes. Those completing the course, which includes a certification exam, will have a deeper understanding of management and employee needs regarding the proper and improper uses of copyrighted content.

In the latter part of 2006, SLA and SIIA held two practice sessions that allowed for course developers to receive feedback from participating SLA members on all aspects of the course, from the name, to the content discussed and how and if it relates to the daily work of an information professional. Following the two successful practice sessions, SIIA finalized the course content and syllabus and will now be offering this customized certification course across the country giving SLA members a discount of $100 off the price.($395 for SLA Members; $495 for non-members).

The CCRM course will be presented in the following U.S. cities this spring and early summer:

  • Monday, February 26th - Chicago, Illinois
