SLA ANNOUNCES 2008 BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION RESULTS
Gloria Zamora to Serve as 2008 President-Elect
Alexandria, Virginia, USA, 17 October 2007- The Special Libraries Association (SLA) announced the results of its 2008 Board of Directors election today. When the polls closed on 11 October, 2,381 members had cast their ballots and participated in the election. Following collection and counting of all mail-in ballots today, the results were finalized and the winners are:
2008 SLA President- Elect (three-year term):
Gloria Zamora, of Sandia National Laboratories in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, was elected to serve as the Association's next president-elect. Zamora has 30 years of experience in the information industry. As a government affairs manager at Sandia National Laboratories, Zamora tracks and analyzes federal legislation. She is currently working as the congressional fellow and field representative in The Office of Senator Jeff Bingaman, (D-N.M.). Zamora has been a member of SLA for 27 years, has held numerous positions within multiple units and Association level committees. She has held several leadership roles, including two terms as president of New Mexico's Rio Grande SLA Chapter, then two terms on the SLA Board of Directors, including one as treasurer. She was named a fellow of SLA in 1999. Her term as SLA president will begin in January 2009.
The vacant positions for the 2008 SLA Board of Directors included chapter and division cabinet chairs-elect as well as two director slots. The winners of these positions are as follows:
2008 Chapter Cabinet Chair-Elect (two-year term):
- Susan Fifer Canby, National Geographic Society, Washington, DC, USA
2008 Division Cabinet Chair-Elect (two-year term):
- Tom Rink, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
2008 Directors (three-year term):
- Deb Hunt, Exploratorium, San Francisco, California, USA
- Ty Webb, InfoWebb, Aurora, Colorado, USA

Each of them is certainly deserving of their nominations and I am sure that we have not heard the last of these SLA superstars," said Janice Lachance, CEO of SLA. Zamora and the other newly-elected board members will begin their terms on the SLA Board of Directors on 1 January and participate in their first Board meeting during the Association's Annual Leadership Summit later that same month in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
