SLA and EBSCO Announce Direct Access to "Green" Database for SLA Members

GreenFILE and LISTA Data Now Available Free of Charge Giving Members Fast Access to Search for Information on Greener Practices

Alexandria, Virginia, 10 June, 2008 -- Special Libraries Association (SLA) in conjunction with EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) announced an agreement that will provide the association's members with free and seamless access to two EBSCO databases. Access to EBSCO's GreenFILE and the Library, Information Science & Technology AbstractsTM (LISTA) is now available directly from the SLA Web site.

SLA Chief Executive Officer Janice R. Lachance says that making resources such as these available to members augments the association's mission of providing information professionals with content that gives them a competitive advantage, as well as professional development resources.

"SLA's 'Knowledge to Go Green' initiative is designed to empower individual members with the inspiration and the information necessary to implement greener practices in their activities on behalf of SLA, as well as their employers," said Lachance. "To that end, we believe it is crucial to provide access to valuable knowledge on environmentally sound practices. With well-researched information on topics ranging from global warming, to recycling, to alternate fuel sources, we hope this additional resource from SLA will assist our members, and their employers, in their own efforts to go green."

Donald P. Doak, vice president of corporate, federal & partnership sales at EBSCO says, "EBSCO is pleased to make these valuable resources available to association members via the SLA Web site. Having SLA offer easy access to GreenFILE and LISTA to its members is a great example of how the association helps members succeed. As a company that has explored its own impact on the environment, EBSCO understands the impact that these changes have on the bottom-line and the value of backing up eco-friendly decisions with the latest information. The easy access to these databases should allow members to push their green efforts and their professional development to the next level."
