Free Web Resources for Legal and Government Info Pros

Alexandria, Virginia, USA - 17 July 2008 - the Special Libraries Association (SLA) and J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. have named Sabrina I. Pacifici, founder, editor and publisher of two leading free online resources for legal information, as this year's recipient of the J. J. Keller Innovations in Technology Award. Pacifici received a $1,000 cash award during a ceremony held Sunday, 15 June in Seattle as part of SLA's 2008 Annual Conference and INFO-EXPO.

The J. J. Keller Innovations in Technology Award recognizes information professionals for innovative use and application of technology in a special library setting. The SLA Awards & Honors Committee chose Pacifici based on her accomplishments as a pioneer in the early and effective use of online information-dissemination applications and the establishment of a global virtual community of best practice for the profession.

Pacifici's career encompasses several decades in Washington, D.C, where she worked primarily as a library director for a global 10 law firm. She is currently the library director at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, but is best known for the online resources she has published on her own time since the World Wide Web's early years.

The respected online journal, LLRX.com (www.llrx.com), which she launched in 1996, continues to provide free up-to-date articles, guides, commentary and training materials on a wide range of Internet research and technology issues encompassing legal and government information. Pacifici is also widely known for her multiple-award-winning blog, beSpacific (www.bespacific.com), launched in 2002, where she provides readers with daily law and technology news with links to reliable primary and secondary sources. Each of these Web sites is visited monthly by more than 100,000 readers worldwide.

According to SLA CEO Janice R. Lachance, Pacifici's recognition as a leader and an early adopter of technology tools to assist other information professionals in their work is well deserved. "Sabrina's use of technology to provide credible information and content to her customers came long before most of us even knew how imperative the Web would be to this profession. For 12 years she has worked tirelessly to be a trusted resource to info pros, and she certainly earned this recognition. I am thrilled that the selection committee chose to honor her contributions with this award."

Webb Shaw, director of editorial resources at J. J. Keller, said, "Sabrina Pacifici's achievements reflect leadership in grasping and using the potential of new information technologies - leadership her peers in special libraries often provide within their own organizations. We congratulate Sabrina for winning this recognition from her colleagues."

Pacifici said, "Thank you to SLA and J. J. Keller for this marvelous honor that recognizes over a 12 years of work authoring, publishing and distributing free, factual, comprehensive, current and focused resources on the Web to a vibrant, engaged and expert community of readers, here in North America and in countries all around the world. My career as a special librarian spans 30 years, and I remain passionate about the future of our profession and the expertise and vitality that we share daily using innovative technology sources and applications."

J. J. Keller's own Research & Technical Library has been in existence since the 1960s, so the company knows what a valuable resource special librarians and other knowledge professionals are. "We're proud to join SLA in recognizing the achievements of special librarians who show particular talent," Shaw said. "We are especially proud to support the Innovations in Technology Award, because innovative delivery of tools and content to help information professionals understand non-financial regulatory and compliance issues is what sets J. J. Keller apart from other content providers in this space."
