U.S. General Colin L. Powell to
Deliver Opening Keynote Address at SLA 2009
SLA Celebrates its Centennial at 2009 Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO
 in Washington, D.C.

Alexandria, Virginia, December 15, 2008 - Former U.S. Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), will deliver the opening keynote address June 14 at the SLA (Special Libraries Association) Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO in Washington, D.C. Powell will speak following the awards ceremony during the SLA 2009 Opening General Session sponsored by SLA 2009 Major Conference Partner Dow Jones & Company.

SLA's 2009 Annual Conference, slated for June 14-17 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, celebrates the association's centennial with the theme "From Information to Inspiration: Knowledge & Vision Shaping the Future." Early bird registration for SLA 2009 will open in early January.

"General Powell is one of the most recognizable figures on the world stage today" notes SLA's CEO Janice R. Lachance. "His unparalleled experiences at the highest levels of the military, diplomatic and philanthropic spheres surely equip him with unique insights into the importance of information and international cooperation that will resonate with our members. SLA is honored to welcome a leader of such stature and accomplishment to our conference at this important time for our profession and for our association."

About General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret)
General Colin L. Powell became the 65th U.S. Secretary of State on January 20, 2001. His 35-year military career, during which he rose to the rank of Four-Star General, includes service as National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush where he oversaw 28 crises, including Operation Desert Storm in the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

General Powell's long list of honors includes the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two Presidential Medals of Freedom, and the French Legion of Honor.
