SLA Members Receive 10 Percent Discount on Tuition for Kent State Master's Program
Online Master's Degree in Knowledge Management Now Convenient and Affordable

Alexandria, Virginia, March 10, 2009---Members of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) are now eligible to receive a 10 percent discount on tuition for Kent State University online master's programs through the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). Kent State University currently offers both an online certificate and master's degree in knowledge management through the Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM) Program.

"Organizations around the globe recognize that success in today's sagging economy requires hiring smart and savvy professionals to provide actionable information as a cornerstone of their business strategy," said SLA CEO Janice R. Lachance. "I am extremely pleased that Kent State is making an advanced degree in this important information field more affordable for SLA members."

According to the 2008 SLA Salary Survey and Workplace Study, 78 percent of surveyed hiring professionals identified knowledge management as an "important" or "very important" skill set. Additionally, information professionals working in knowledge management specialty roles in all types of organizations enjoy higher-than-average salaries across the board. The 2008 survey results indicate that knowledge management professionals earned an average of US$ 85,039 annually, compared to US$ 71,812 for all survey respondents.

"The master's degree in knowledge management from Kent State will position graduates for success in today's economy. It can be an especially valuable complement to business, computer science, library or information science, management, and other similar degrees," said Thomas Froehlich of the Kent State School of Library and Information Science IAKM program.

Froehlich added, "Graduates with knowledge management training are sought after by employers because they can close the gap between technology and the day-to-day knowledge user. This online program will prepare students for a field that is extremely relevant in today's corporate landscape."

The IAKM program and the course work are designed to link students, instructors and guest speakers on a global scale and offer the flexibility of coursework completion at times convenient to the student. The SLA member discount applies to the online certificate or master's degree in knowledge management and is not available for the Kent State University on-campus programs.

Admission requirements include an earned undergraduate bachelor's degree, GPA thresholds, work experience, and letters of recommendation.
