SLA 2009 Features Major Conference Support from
Dow Jones & Company, Dialog & ProQuest, and Springer

Keynote from General Colin Powell Kicks Off Global Conference and SLA Centennial Celebration

Alexandria, Va., June 2, 2009--The Special Libraries Association (SLA) will kick off its annual conference in Washington, D.C., on June 14 with significant corporate support from key organizations in the information industry. Dow Jones, Dialog & ProQuest, and Springer are serving as major conference partners for what is widely considered the largest knowledge and information management event in North America. This year's SLA Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO is the cornerstone event of SLA's year-long Centennial Celebration.

"The commitment to these ongoing partnerships with SLA reflects the enthusiasm our sponsors have to advancing the information profession and the work of our members," said SLA Chief Executive Officer Janice R. Lachance. "Our colleagues at Dow Jones, Dialog & ProQuest, and Springer have participated in our annual conference as supportive sponsors year after year, and I want to thank them for their continued dedication. It is with their support that SLA is able to offer better programs each year."

The 2009 major conference partners have pledged support for a variety of specific events, meetings, services and activities for SLA members to enjoy. All three companies have also contributed to the SLA President's Circle, which is dedicated to our Campaign for Tomorrow. The campaign was established to ensure the continued financial stability and longevity of this historic professional association, which benefits members throughout the world.

Dow Jones' strong involvement with and commitment to SLA continue this year with its sponsorship of the Opening General Session, featuring former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell. Dow Jones also develops the content and provides speakers for the popular SLA TechZone sessions and supports the SLA Division Cabinet meeting and the Competitive Intelligence Certificate Program courses. The Dow Jones Leadership Award honors information professionals' commitment to developing competencies for career growth.

Dialog & ProQuest are supporting numerous programs, most notably the Closing General Session, which features a keynote presentation about the future of information by luminaries in the fields of business, technology and aerospace science. Television's Judy Woodruff will moderate, with author Robyn Meredith, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and technology guru John Patrick participating as panelists. Dialog & ProQuest's sponsorship supports the SLA Hot Topic Session The Globalization of Information, the Diversity Leadership Development Program breakfast and the INFO-EXPO Guide. Dialog also sponsors the Member Achievement Award, which recognizes an SLA member who has worked to promote the association and the profession.

Springer is sponsoring the SLA Marketplace as well as all of the water stations outside the workshops and sessions. Springer is also continuing its backing of the SLA Professional Award as well as supporting the SLA Hot Topic Session, The Promise of 2.0.
