in New Orleans
Political Powerhouse Couple to Welcome Conference Attendees to
The Big Easy
Alexandria, Va. March 26, 2010--Husband-and-wife political commentators James Carville and Mary Matalin will deliver the opening keynote address June 13 at the SLA (Special Libraries Association) Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO in New Orleans.
Carville and Matalin will speak during the SLA 2010 Opening General Session, sponsored by Dow Jones & Company, an SLA 2010 major conference partner.
SLA's 2010 Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO, slated for June 13-16 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, will bring together thousands of special librarians, information professionals and knowledge managers for four days. The event will feature more than 250 educational sessions and panels, numerous networking opportunities, and the SLA INFO-EXPO, a trade show with 250-plus information industry vendors under one roof. About James Carville and Mary Matalin
James Carville is a Democratic political consultant and liberal commentator and was the co-host of CNN's Crossfire until its final broadcast in June 2005. He is a frequent commentator on various television shows, including a reoccurring appearance on CNN's The Situation Room. Carville first gained national attention as the lead strategist on Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign a role for which he garnered the honor of Campaign Manager of the Year by the American Association of Political Consultants. In 2009, he began teaching political science at Tulane University in his native state of Louisiana.
Mary Matalin is a Republican political consultant and conservative commentator. She was assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney and served as chief of staff of the Republican National Committee. She now runs Threshold, a conservative imprint at Simon & Schuster, sits on the editorial board of Campaigns and Elections Magazine, and is a frequent political contributor on CNN. Matalin was also a host of CNN's Crossfire, and was the founding co-host of CNBC's Equal Time.
In the1992 U.S. presidential race, Matalin and Carville staffed opposing campaigns. Matalin working for President George H.W. Bush as deputy campaign manager for political operations, while Carville led Clinton's "War Room" at campaign headquarters in Little Rock.
Married since 1993, Carville and Matalin co-authored the book, All's Fair: Love, War, and Running for President, which spent eight weeks on The New York Times best-seller list. The book was also named one of the top five books on public relations by the Wall Street Journal.
Carville's other books have included We're Right, They're Wrong: A Handbook for Spirited Progressives; And the Horse He Rode In On: The People vs. Kenneth Starr; and 40 More Years: How the Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation. Matalin's most recent book, Letters to My Daughters, was named a Book of the Month Club selection and earned a place on The New York Times and Washington Post best-seller lists.
In 2003, Carville and Matalin put a fresh and critically acclaimed spin on political consulting as characters in the HBO political drama series K Street. Both can be seen regularly on television as political commentators and contributors. The couple reside in New Orleans with their two daughters.
