SLA to Publicly Unveil New Headquarters
Information Professionals, Friends to Gather for Open House, Briefings
Alexandria, Virginia, USA, October 15, 2004 – The Special Libraries Association (SLA) will host an open house to introduce the public to its new global headquarters. Members and partners of the association, neighbors, and leaders from the Washington, DC area association community are invited to attend the event, which takes place Wednesday, October 20, 2004, 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at 331 South Patrick Street, in the Alexandria Gateway Complex in Alexandria, Virginia USA.
The new facility features comfortable work and meeting space for staff; public meeting space – including a telecommuting center and advanced presentation and communications technologies – and a state-of-the-art information center that serves the research needs of the SLA staff and membership. Each member of staff works in private space, with networked phone and wireless computer access.
SLA Executive Director Janice R. Lachance is excited to show off the new headquarters. "I’m just ecstatic about the kind of workspace we now have, with modern technologies and support systems to help staff be more productive and successful. And our meeting space is top-notch. We hope members, partners, and the association community will make use of it, so that we can truly consider our headquarters to be a hub for the profession we represent."
During the event, SLA will offer briefings on the association’s 2005 Annual Conference, its proposed Global Online University, and a preview of a study to be conducted by SLA and the University of North Carolina on the future of information professionals in the workforce.
The event is supported by a host SLA chapters, partner companies, and suppliers. SLA is grateful to the following organizations for their generous support:
