WISE
There is an exciting new development in the field of online education The WISE initiative. WISE stands for Web-enabled Information Science Education. It is a consortium of 12 universities that have come together to share classes, students and resources online. The initiative, funded by an IMLS grant and spearheaded by Syracuse University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is specifically charged with developing a collaborative model for online education. As a WISE participant, a student at the University of Pittsburgh who needs a particular course offered by Victoria University of Wellington will be able to take the course and receive the credit. Also, as part of this project, teachers who develop and/or deliver online courses will be trained in a standard pedagogy for online education that will be developed as part of the funded program. WISE website.
The good news for SLA is that we will be partnering with WISE and offering WISE courses via our online university site that is scheduled to be launched at Conference in Toronto. Also at Toronto will be the launch of the WISE initiative.
