Information Ethics Advisory Council
Six association members appointed for overlapping terms of three years each. The members of the committee should represent diverse geographic and professional backgrounds, as well as knowledge or an interest in the topic of global information ethics and the impact of ethics on the profession and the association.
The Advisory Council shall:
- Develop and finalize the association's ethics values statements and guidelines based on input gathered from members, the Presidential Study Commission on Professional Recruitment, Ethics, and Professional Standards (PREPS) report, and the Ethics Task Force.
- Advise the Chief Executive Officer on emerging ethical issues of importance which may inform the addition and revision of the association's ethics value statements and guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Professional Development Advisory Council on efforts to incorporate the association's ethics values and guidelines into the SLA professional competencies document.
- On an annual basis, assess the potential for offering Click University programming, continuing education sessions at annual conference and a certificate program for information ethics. Plan and implement programs at annual conference when appropriate.
- Establish an ongoing process for educating and communicating with members and units on matters of information ethics within the profession and association.
- Develop tools and resources for use by members in their day-to-day work and for the promotion of information ethics within member's organizations.
- Provide training, tools and oversight to Ethics Ambassadors on an annual basis.
- Collaborate with the Public Relations Advisory Council on activities and promotion of Global Information Ethics Day.
