Research & Development Committee

Five members appointed for overlapping terms of three years each. To the extent possible, the members of the committee should represent diverse backgrounds including primary research or evidence-based practice, as well as knowledge that would contribute to the evaluation of programs and services that would produce results which have practical, measurable, and tangible impact on the growth and positioning of the profession.

The Committee shall:

(1) develop the Association's research vision for action by the Board of Directors;

(2) advise the Board of Directors and the Association on matters pertaining to the advancement of research and its relation to practice in the information profession and related fields;

(3) advise and assist the Association's Director, Information Center in planning and evaluating the Association's activities in the area of research;

(4) encourage cooperative efforts with other groups toward the advancement of research in the information profession and related fields.

(5) maintain guidelines for the consideration of applications for funding that meets the purposes of the above. In addition, guidelines will include options for projects which directly benefit the operations of the Association and its units such as publications, research projects, study grants, continuing education programs, public awareness activities, special studies and reports, and information dissemination efforts.

(6) publicize the availability of funds and the process for applying; and

(7) evaluate the applications for grants and recommend to the Board of Directors those suitable for funding.

(The Director, Information Center is an ex-officio member of the Committee and the Association Office contact.)
