In this workshop, based on his book Get Hired in a Tough Market, Alan De Back will outline strategies that will put you ahead of the competition. He will address these important questions: How do you prepare before you even begin your search? What are the components of an effective job search plan? What strategies most often bring success? How do you prepare for and succeed in interviews? What techniques can you use that your competitors are neglecting? To get the job you really want, what one thing do you need to remember above all else? This highly interactive workshop will help you develop the approaches you need to get hired in a tough market.

Networking in the 21ST Century
10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.,Convention Center 102A
Networking has long been an important job search strategy. In the 21st Century, however, this technique has become more challenging with the advent of social networking tools such as LinkedIn, Plaxo, and Ryze. This workshop will start off by examining strategies for traditional face-to-face networking. You will learn a structured methodology for identifying and organizing potential networking contacts and the importance of developing and practicing an elevator speech. Finally, you will find out about the power of long-term "networthing" (as opposed to traditional networking). The second half of the workshop will focus on electronic networking using social media sites. We'll discuss how to best use the resources of those sites to develop your "electronic reputation." We'll also talk about your "electronic presence" on the Internet and steps you should take to protect yourself online.
