How do I conduct more advanced business & industry research for intelligence applications? What are some tools & techniques that can support my efforts?

This, Part 2 of the online course, CI Published Source Collection: Research techniques Course, builds on Part 1 by examining advanced topics that include 1) international intelligence research for business, industry, and people  2) intellectual property research 3) conducting research for common analytical frameworks 4) designing and managing effective monitoring efforts 5) intelligence research software. Topics will build from general business research by focusing on and highlighting creative techniques and sources used in intelligence collection. This online course includes an exercise and discussions involving an intelligence monitoring effort.

Prerequisite: Participants enrolled for the IIF and Dual Competitive Intelligence Certificates are recommended to complete course CIC-04.

Course Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to conduct key types of intelligence research in a variety of project contexts. When given the types of intelligence research questions, issues and problems that are covered in this course, participants will be able to research needs and outline possible solutions.

Specific Learning Outcomes:

  1. Conduct more effective international literature research to support intelligence efforts.
  2. Distinguish different types of intellectual properly research, how each type supports intelligence, how particular factors can affect intelligence outcomes, as well as how to address these.
  3. Design and conduct research that supports specific and common analytical models that are used in intelligence, as well as the questions that surround these frameworks.
  4. Design and manage more robust and effective monitoring efforts for various types of intelligence projects and requirements.
  5. Evaluate and compare intelligence research software tools, their applications, strengths, and weaknesses.
    Participants will develop skills and abilities according to professional competencies outlined by Knowledge inForm.

Performance Measure

Course assessment, exercises and discussions will measure and evaluate the degree of understanding that participants achieve over the learning process.
