This course will focus on key frameworks and techniques that can help your organization understand, assess and anticipate threats and opportunities, identify and track key development.  See how a cost analysis project is conducted, learn how to understand competition through win-loss analysis, gain understanding of your industry's strategic groups, and expand your monitoring efforts through developing an Early Warning System. Through discussions and exercises, we will learn how to select and apply these essential analytical tools, define research requirements, generate systemic and forward-looking intelligence and more.

Prerequisite: Participants enrolled in the "Core" and Dual Competitive Intelligence Certificates are recommended to complete the online course, Competitive Intelligence Analysis: Fundamental Frameworks (CIC-08), on Click University.

Course Level: Intermediate - Concepts beyond the scope of fundamentals for practitioners at all experience levels.

Course Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will recognize key fundamental analytical frameworks and activities that can enhance their understanding of their competition, competitive strategy, and developments. When presented with intelligence research or analytical questions, issues, and problems related to the topics covered, participants will be able to support intelligence needs and outline possible solutions to relevant intelligence questions.

Specific Learning Outcomes:

  1. Employ appropriately the analytical techniques covered in order to understand and anticipate competitor activities and conditions; industry developments; the macro-environment; and their own organizations.
  2. Anticipate, identify, and better understand activities and developments -  including threats and opportunities - that can impact an organization.
  3. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of each technique covered and how to address inherent advantages and limitations of these models.
  4. Utilize intermediate-level analytical principles and models to support intelligence project planning and research efforts.
  5. Use the models covered in this course as the basis for building their analytical capabilities and experience.

Participants will develop skills and abilities according to professional competencies outlined by Knowledge inForm.

Performance Measure:  Exercises and discussions will measure and evaluate the degree of understanding that participants achieve over the learning process.
