Course Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will understand the necessity of managing the use of copyright-protected materials and how to manage these materials. The participant will be able to analyze the copyright risk in a given situation, learn how to avoid copyright infringement law suits, and what to do if your enterprise is accused of copyright infringement. The participant will understand the steps in obtaining copyright permissions for print and digital works, and the importance of a written permissions procedure, and how to deal with unlocatable copyright owners. The participant will be able to describe and discuss the role of agreements with collective such as the Copyright Clearance Center, and with digital publishers and vendors, plan license agreement negotiations, and explain licenses, and understand how to monitor legal and illegal uses of copyright-protected works, including digital works.

- Analyze key terms and conditions in a digital license.
- Explain how to deal with an accusation of copyright infringement.
- Appraise how to monitor legal and illegal uses of copyright-protected works including digital ones.
Performance Measure
Course assessment, exercises and discussions will measure and evaluate the degree of understanding that participants achieve over the learning process.
Attendance is required for the entire day long session to obtain IACET credit and/or satisfy Certificate requirement.
Prerequisites
This online course is the sixth of seven required courses for the SLA/Click University Certificate in Copyright Management: Principles and Issues.CCM 100, 200 and/or 201, 300, 400 and 500 are recommended but are not prerequisites for participants in the Certificate.
There are no prerequisites for non-Certificate participants, who may take any Certificate courses a la carte. However, registration in this course requires a knowledge of basic copyright management principles and issues (including fair use/dealing.)
