WHY SHOULD I GET A CERTIFICATE?
Competitive Intelligence
Earning a Competitive Intelligence Certificate helps you efficiently build the necessary skills and experience to begin practicing or supporting competitive intelligence. The curriculum is designed according to Knowledge inForm's Competitive Intelligence Competencies, which defines essential knowledge, skills, abilities, and qualities important to effective intelligence practices in each major functional area of intelligence: planning & development, research, analysis, intelligence delivery, and managing intelligence.
A certificate can expand your opportunities within your organization, as well as beyond. It demonstrates your commitment and enhances your credibility with employers and colleagues. A certificate will also help you make greater contributions toward the intelligence generation and decision-making in your organization.
Copyright Management
Earning a Certificate in Copyright Management: Principles and Issues is a unique opportunity to learn about copyright through courses developed specifically for special librarians, and which address issues information professionals face in their daily work.
Participants will get accurate, comprehensive, and practical information on domestic and international copyright law, digital copyright issues, use of copyright-protected materials, digital license agreements, copyright collective agreements (such as the Copyright Clearance Center and Access Copyright), and managing content and copyright compliance. There is no other equivalent existing educational opportunity available.
Knowledge Management
Earning a Certificate in Knowledge Management, a Certificate in Knowledge Services or the The Dual Certificate in Knowledge Management and Knowledge Services is a unique opportunity to learn about KM/knowledge services through courses developed specifically for information professionals and knowledge workers, including special librarians. The courses address issues information professionals face in their daily work.
Participants will get accurate, comprehensive and practical information on knowledge management (KM) and knowledge services practices and how to apply KM and knowledge services immediately and effectively for the benefit of the parent organization.
HOW DO THE COURSES IN THIS PROGRAM COMPARE TO OTHER COURSES?
The courses are designed specifically with the needs of SLA members in mind. Both participants and employers have found that the Click University Certificate Programs offer immediate benefits and tremendous value. We build on the strengths of information professionals and help participants fill their knowledge gaps in support of career expansion or transition into a new field. Our blended approach offers the advantages of online and onsite sessions, lectures, live and online discussions, practical exercises and other features. This approach also provides learning opportunities that address a variety of learning styles. Our participants find that the techniques, tools and frameworks we cover may be applied immediately to their work.
IS THIS PROGRAM OPEN TO NON-MEMBERS?
All certificate programs and courses are open to SLA members and non-members.
CAN I TAKE COURSES EVEN IF I DON'T PLAN ON GETTING A CERTIFICATE?
Yes. Courses may be taken à la carte.
DO I EARN ANY CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEUs) FOR THESE COURSES?
SLA Members earn between .5 - 1 IACET CEU per course. Non-members do not earn IACET CEU credit.
ARE COURSES CONDUCTED ONLINE OR IN PERSON?
Both. We understand that our members must balance a variety of commitments. We also recognize that, in order to build the skills and experience necessary for good practice, a hands-on format can be more efficient and effective in many cases. In order to maximize flexibility for our members and build essential skills, we've designed the program with a blended approach.
ARE THE ONLINE COURSES SELF-TAUGHT?
No. To ensure a quality experience and to provide a richer experience for each participant, the online courses are led by instructors who are experienced in both in-person and online instruction. Participants will also have the opportunity to join discussions, collaborate, and network with fellow participants.
WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS/REQUIREMENTS OF THE ONLINE COURSES?
Each online course consists of:
- One to three live lectures that kick off each course. Recordings will also be available for review.
- One to two live group discussions
- An online asynchronous list discussion
- Selected readings that reinforce the build on the lectures
- A practical exercise
- An online quiz (if applicable)
Except for the live sessions, each component is self-paced.
WHEN ARE THE ONLINE LECTURES AND LIVE DISCUSSIONS HELD?
For a detailed course schedule, including the dates and times of online lectures and live discussions, visit the course page or contact us at clicku@sla.org.
WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS/REQUIREMENTS OF THE IN-PERSON COURSES?
Each in-person course consists of lectures, discussions, and exercises. Exercises are designed to develop and reinforce the necessary experience and skills for intelligence practice. They involve actual techniques and models that you can begin to apply immediately.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL EACH COURSE REQUIRE?
For online courses, each course is estimated to require 10 hours per week for the first two weeks. This includes the lectures, discussion, readings, and exercise(s). Actual time spent will vary by individual. The final week is an open period during which participants complete either a brief quiz or a project.
For in-person courses, each course takes one day to complete. This includes lectures, discussions, and exercises.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO MISS A COURSE SESSION OR IF I NEED TO TAKE A FEW DAYS AWAY FROM THE COURSE?
Our blended learning approach, scheduling, recorded lectures and instructor access mean that most participants can work around work projects, family needs, vacations/holidays and other important events that arise. Participants who have questions about course requirements and how a course can fit into their schedules can contact us at clicku@sla.org.
HOW MANY COURSES ARE REQUIRED TO EARN EACH CERTIFICATE?

HOW MUCH WILL A COMPLETE CERTIFICATE COST?
We have designed the certificate programs to provide our members and their employers the benefits of academic and commercial training programs at a greater value and significant cost-savings compared to other programs.
The total cost for a certificate is dependent on which of the three certificate tracks you aim to pursue. Each requires a different number of courses for completion. You can also take advantage of discounts.
