Darlene Fichter has a strong background in library and information technology. She tracks emerging tech tools and trends, and looks at how libraries might adapt and utilize new technologies to serve users better. Darlene is the Data Library Coordinator at the University of Saskatchewan Library. She is also the owner of web consulting company, Northern Lights Internet Solutions Ltd.
As an IT consultant and librarian, Darlene has been the project leader for several Internet, Intranet, digital library and portal projects. She has set up and consulted on the development of several weblogs. Currently, she maintains four special purpose weblogs. Darlene started highlighting the potential of weblogs for library applications with her article, "Blogging Your Life Away" in Online May 2001. Since then, she has written more articles about the use of weblogs in libraries and delivered presentations and workshops at library, knowledge management and higher education conferences.
Darlene Fichter is keenly interested in the areas of usability, user adoption of new technologies, metadata, XML, and knowledge management. She is also the Intranet Librarian columnist for Online magazine.
