But records retention is much more than this: It is a comprehensive life cycle for the creation, organization, usage, storage, and destruction of both physical and electronic documents. An effective retention strategy will allow an organization to control its records and put them to practical use serving not just legal and regulatory needs but those of the business as well. This seminar will outline the latest thinking on records retention and present 10 essential elements that must be included in any retention strategy.

Mark Diamond was one of the early pioneers in the storage services industry. Mark founded Contoural, and under his leadership the company has grown to be the industry leader in data consulting services. Previously Mark was co-founder of the Professional Services group at Veritas (OpenVision), and subsequently founded and built the worldwide professional services and education organizations for Legato Systems. He was also Vice President of Worldwide Professional Services at RightWorks. Mark was one of the industry leaders in applying the life-cycle services approach to storage, and has been a management consultant to numerous storage vendors. He is a frequent industry speaker on compliance, data policy, storage strategy and archiving. Mark is also President of the Alumni Association for the University of California San Diego.
